Champagne picks for New Years!

Here are three very different “Bubbly” suggestions that I have enjoyed over the years at different price points and tastes. It all depends on what you prefer. No right or wrongs here.

1. FREIXENET CORDON NEGRO BRUT
LCBO 216945 | 750 mL bottle Price: $ 13.95

Craig’s note: Easy drinking and affordable. An everyday go to.

Wine, Sparkling Wine, White
12.0% Alcohol/Vol.
Sugar Content : 1
Made in: Region Not Specified, Spain
By: Freixenet S.A.

2. GIAVI CONEGLIANO VALDOBBIADENE PROSECCO SUPERIORE
VINTAGES 209569 | 750 mL bottle  Price: $ 14.65

Craig’s note: Something different! It is a nice change, affordable and versatile. I find it can be a little more elegant than less-expensive Champagne.

Wine, Sparkling Wine, Other Sparkling Wine
11.1% Alcohol/Vol.
Sugar Content : XD
Made in: Veneto, Italy
By: Tenuta Giavi
Release Date: Mar 5, 2011

Tasting Note:
Lovely floral notes, with candied white fruit, perfume and popcorn. Dry, medium bodied, with good mousse, a creamy texture, zesty acidity, and a nice, long, fruity finish. Perfect for adding sparkle to a quiet night in together with a good movie, and some buttered popcorn. Or share it with all your friends during the hors d’oeuvre course when they come over for the evening. (VINTAGES panel, June 2010)

3. VEUVE CLICQUOT BRUT
LCBO 563338 | 750 mL bottle Price: $ 66.25

Craig’s note: If you want to spoil yourself once a year…go for it!

Wine, Champagne
12.0% Alcohol/Vol.
Sugar Content : 1
Made in: Region Not Specified, France
By: Veuve Clicquot-Ponsardin S.A.

Tasting Note
Bright yellow straw colour, elegant mousse; Fruity, citrus, mineral, toasty aromas with a hint of bread dough; Dry, full bodied style, with well balanced acidity & complex flavours of mineral, citrus and shortbread on the long finish.

Serving Suggestion
Aperitif; oysters; smoked salmon; mushroom quiche.

Cheers & Happy New Year!
